Chief Architect for Payment
We are seeking a skilled Chief Architect for Payment to design, develop, and optimize the payment processing systems that underpin our product offerings. As a Chief Architect for Payment, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of payment solutions. This includes working on end-to-end payment infrastructure, integrating third-party payment gateways, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and compliance to card brand requirements. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless, efficient, and secure payment experiences for our users.
To succeed in this role, you should have extensive experience in payment systems, transaction processing, and understanding payment protocols, with a focus on high availability, security, and scalability. The ideal candidate will also have a solid background in payment industry standards and compliance, including PCI DSS, PSD2, data security laws, fraud detection/prevention and money laundering regulations.
Chief Architect for Payment Job Responsibilities:
Design and implement secure, scalable, and highly available payment architectures to support large volumes of transactions.
Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications for payment solutions.
Build and maintain payment integration processes with third-party payment service providers, acquirers, and payment gateways.
Ensure the reliability and performance of the payment infrastructure, focusing on reducing latency and optimizing transaction processing.
Define and implement secure handling of payment data, ensuring compliance with PCI DSS and other relevant regulations.
Design and maintain systems for payment tokenization, encryption, and secure storage.
Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to ensure a seamless and secure payment processing environment.
Monitor and troubleshoot payment system performance, identifying bottlenecks and proposing solutions.
Ensure that payment systems support multiple currencies, regional payment methods, and various payment types (e.g., credit cards, digital wallets, bank transfers).
Conduct risk assessments and implement fraud detection mechanisms within the payment infrastructure.
Guide teams through the implementation of new payment technologies, ensuring best practices are followed.
Stay up to date with emerging trends in payment technologies, including blockchain, real-time payments, and open banking.
Work with compliance and legal teams to ensure payment systems meet local and global regulatory requirements.
Coach and mentor Tech Leads to enhance their technical skills in payment processing, security, and regulatory compliance.
Provide guidance on architectural principles, coding best practices, and efficient problem-solving for payment-related challenges.
Conduct regular workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions to elevate team capabilities in payment systems and secure transaction processing.
Support Tech Leads in developing technical roadmaps, prioritizing payment system improvements, and managing technical debt.
Act as a resource for Tech Leads in navigating complex project requirements and in making architecture decisions that balance security, scalability, and maintainability.
Foster a collaborative environment that encourages continuous learning and innovation within payment teams.
Chief Architect for Payment Requirements:
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
5-10 years of experience in software engineering, architecture, and payment systems design.
Expertise in payment processing protocols such as ISO 8583, EMV, 3D Secure, and real-time payment schemes.
Experience with payment gateways, acquiring banks, and third-party payment service providers.
A deep understanding of PCI DSS, GDPR, PSD2, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
Strong experience with payment infrastructure in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and microservices architectures.
Hands-on experience with API design and payment-related integrations (e.g., REST, SOAP, GraphQL).
Proficiency in payment tokenization, encryption technologies, and fraud detection strategies.
Knowledge of various payment methods including credit/debit cards, mobile payments, digital wallets, and cryptocurrencies.
Familiarity with secure transaction models, payment authorization flows, and settlement processes.
Experience with continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and DevOps practices.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with regional payment networks and schemes (e.g., SEPA, ACH, UPI, Swish).
Experience with global-scale payment systems supporting high transaction volumes.
